Information
Thank you for your interest in the "Sports anime... but make it girls!" prompt meme!As you may have guessed from the title, this is an 18+ multi-fandom sports anime prompt meme hosted on the Archive of Our Own (AO3) where the purpose is genderswapping canonical male characters. If you're unfamiliar with the general idea of a prompt meme, it goes like this:1. A requestor posts a prompt they'd like to see filled, with pairings and tags associated.
2. A creator claims that prompt and creates something for it, then posts it on AO3.
3. The requestor and everyone else gives hearty thanks to the creator!Creators should create either fic or art. Fic should be a minimum of 400 words and posted on AO3, while art should be a minimum of a sketch not on lined or dotted paper. Creators are welcome to go beyond these requirements, but not expected to do so!🔴 Please consider this event "proship." Problematic and NSFW elements are welcome for both prompts and fills (if the prompt you're filling requests it). There are no restrictions on content, though a prompter's "Do Not Wants" (DNWs) must be respected and archive warnings must be used if applicable. Please see our FAQ page for more detailed information on everything mentioned here!

Frequently Asked Questions
Here you'll find a list of questions and answers that may hopefully satiate your knowledge needs. Please reach out if you have a question that's not answered by this list!
Q1: I just want to search prompts. How do I do that?
A1: We have a sortable/filterable Excel spreadsheet embedded here! It is updated daily until prompt posting closes.Q2: What is a prompt meme?
A2: A prompt meme is, at the basic level, an event where requestors (anonymous or not) submit prompts that they'd like to see filled via fic or art. Prompt fillers (anonymous or not) can then create the fic or art that was requested.Q3: What is the schedule for the prompt meme?
A3: The schedule is as follows:- Tag set nominations: March 16 - April 1, 2022
- Prompt posting: April 2 - May 14, 2022
- Prompt filling: April 9 - May 21, 2022Q4: Okay, but how does this prompt meme actually work?
A4: This prompt meme is hosted on the Archive of Our Own (AO3). There are three stages to the meme: tag set nominations, prompt requesting, and prompt filling.- During tag set nominations, use the 'Nominate' button on the tagset to submit up to ten ships for which you might be interested in requesting prompts.
- During prompt requesting, you can use tags from the tag set to write your prompt requests.
- During prompt filling, claim a prompt that strikes your fancy and then create art or fic for it!Q5: What is / why are we using a tag set for the meme?
A5: A tag set allows users to nominate ships that aren't yet canonical AO3 tags (i.e., ships that haven't been used in a fic yet). This means that during tag nominations, you should submit any ships that you may want to use to write a prompt! Check this page out if you need a guide for tag set nominations.Q6: What ships / fandoms can be nominated to the tag set?
A6: Any and all sports anime fandoms/ships!Q7: Are trans characters allowed?
A7: Yes, of course.Q8: Are canonical cis female characters allowed?
A8: Absolutely. Our main focus is on cis male characters being genderbent, but we understand that girls in sports anime are often also underrepresented in fanworks.Q9: Okay, can I genderwap a male character but keep a canon female character in a ship? (E.g. F!Shimizu Kiyoko/F!Tanaka Ryuunosuke)
A9. Sure thing.Q10: But what about genderswapping both the male and the female character in the ship? (E.g. M!Shimizu Kiyoko/F!Tanaka Ryuunosuke)
A10: Yes.Q11: Can I change my mind about tag set nominations after I submit them?
A11: Yes, though the tags may have already been approved to add to the tag set (in which case they won't be deleted).Q12: How old do I have to be to submit a prompt / fill a prompt?
A12: Since some prompts will include 18+ topics and/or language, you must be 18 years of age or older to participate.Q13: Is NSFW content allowed?
A13: Yes! Problematic content and NSFW content is allowed in both prompts and fills (as long as your prompter requests it). No subject is off-limits as long as the work features a sports anime genderswap, though keep in mind that the prompters "Do Not Wants" (DNWs) must be respected and archive warnings must be used if applicable.Q14: How do I submit a prompt?
A14: This is an excellent question, and we've made a separate page just for that question (with screenshots).Q15: What are the requirements for fills?
A15: Creators should create either fic or art. Fic should be a minimum of 400 words and posted on AO3, while art should be a minimum of a sketch not on lined or dotted paper. Creators are welcome to go beyond these requirements, but not expected to do so! Additionally, your fill must avoid anything that the requestor has listed as a "Do Not Want" (DNW).Q16: I don't want to request anything. Can I just create stuff for prompts I like?
A16: Absolutely! To claim a prompt, click the "Claim" button that appears in the prompt box. (This button only appears if you're logged into your AO3 account, and functions similar to a bookmarking feature.)Once you've claimed a prompt, your AO3 name will appear underneath the prompt box. Keep in mind that your creation must adhere to the requirements and must avoid anything that the requestor has listed as a "Do Not Want" (DNW), though otherwise, you may feel free to ignore or include as much of the original request as you'd like.
If you no longer want to fulfill a request, simply click the "Drop Claim" button, and your name will be removed from the list.Q17: Somebody's already claimed the prompt I wanted to fill! >:(
A17: That's okay! Multiple people can claim a prompt. Claiming a prompt does not mean that you HAVE to create something for the prompt - it merely signals your interest and acts similar to a "bookmark" feature for your own use.Q18: How do I see the prompts that I've claimed?
A18: When you go to the Sportsani But Girls AO3 Collection, there's a tab on the left side that says "My Claims." If you don't see this, it means you haven't claimed any prompts.
Q19: Can I fill more than one prompt?
A19: Yes, absolutely! You can even fill your own prompt if you'd like.Q20: How do I post my creation?
A20: When viewing your Claims, click the "Fulfill" button under the prompt you want to fill:
You will then be taken to the New Work page, which you may be familiar with. You can double check that your work is associated with the prompt by viewing the "Associations" section:
Q21: How should I tag my work?
A21: Please use the archive warnings if applicable. Otherwise, there are no rules about Additional Tags. Some relevant tags you may wish to use if they suit your own interpretation include:- Alternate Universe - Always a Different Sex
- Alternate Universe - Gender Changes
- Gender or Sex Swap
- Genderbending
- Rule 63
- Trans Female CharacterQ22: How do I post art to AO3?
A22: If you choose to fulfill your prompt with art, you'll still have to post it to AO3 in order for the prompt to register as filled. Instructions for embedding art hosted on Dropbox, Flickr, and Privatter to AO3 can be found here. Please contact us if you need help embedding art hosted on another site!Q23: Why are you hosting this on AO3 instead of Dreamwidth?
A23: Hosting a prompt meme on AO3 allows for easy linking of fills to prompts and has more moderation tools than Dreamwidth.Q24: Who's running this thing?
A24: Notallbees and JaneBuzJane. :3cQ25: Isn't genderbending as a trope considered transphobic?
A25: Nope. And as we stated above, trans prompts and fills are welcome.
Submitting a Prompt
If you've never submitted a request on a prompt meme on AO3 before, here's a handy guide to the form. Let us know if you have any questions! You may edit your sign-up at any time as long as sign-ups are still open. You can prompt up to 30 prompts, but you don't have to put them all in your form at one time! Feel free to go back and edit your sign-up if you think of more fabulous, juicy prompts.
First, go to the Sportsani but Girls Prompt Meme page on AO3. On the right, click "Sign Up." (You can click "Join" too, but "Sign Up" takes you directly to the prompt form.)
Next, you'll come to the request form. Here's how to fill it out:
1. TItle. This field is required. Tell us your prompt name!2. Fandom. What sports anime fandom are you prompting? Choose only one unless this request is specifically for a crossover.3. Characters. What characters are you wanting someone to write about / draw? This field isn't required, but may help your prompt filler with their concept.4. Relationship. What ship is this prompt for? If your prompt doesn't contain a ship or is Gen, feel free to leave this blank. If your prompt could work for more than one ship, list the other ships in the "Describe your prompt" section. This won't be searchable (and claimers don't have to honor the ships listed here), so make sure that the Relationship field contains your first choice of ship!✋ The ship may not appear in the field at first when you type it in. This is a known issue with all AO3 tag sets. To get around this, visit the tag set and find your ship, then copy it. Paste it directly into the Relationships field on the form, and it will be accepted, even if it doesn't appear.🔴 Note that there is a difference between the "/" character and the "&" character used when entering ships. Separating the names of two characters with a "/" (e.g. Haiba Lev/Yaku Morisuke) means that you are nominating a romantic relationship. Separating the names with an "&" means you are nominating a platonic relationship (no romance).5. Categories. Are you prompting Gen, Male/Female, Female/Female...?
6. Ratings. What's the rating of the fic or art your prompt filler will create for you? You can select all options if you're okay with any.7. Archive Warnings. If your prompt contains any major archive warnings, select them here. If it doesn't, choose "No Archive Warnings Apply."8. Description. Lay out your prompt here!9. Anonymous. If you don't want your username to be associated with the prompt, fill in this box. Note that it isn't entirely secure and is still guessable in some places.🔴 For instance, if you submit an anonymous prompt, the account that you used to submit the prompt will show as being signed up for the meme, even though the account name is not attached to the prompt. If this is a dealbreaker for you, feel free to email us and ask for an AO3 invite you can use for a sockpuppet account! Then! If you've got another request - say, for another ship, or another scenario - click the "Add another request" button!
Nominating a Crossover ship
Nominating a crossover ship can be easily done by using the fandom "Crossover Fandom" in place of the character or ship fandom. The fandom "Crossover Fandom" will not appear in the box after typing, but it will fill in correctly as long as you don't choose anything from the dropdown.
A few caveats:
- Make sure the character names are spelled correctly (if in doubt, check the canonical AO3 tags).
- Add the fandom name in parentheses after the character name (the short name of the fandom is fine - see below for short names!).
- Please follow the established AO3 format of [Family Name] [First Name] for JP characters.
- Please ensure that the ship tags are in alphabetical order by family name.
For example, below, I have nominated the ship Miyuki Kazuya from "Daiya no Ace" and Nanjo Kojiro | Joe from "SK8 the Infinity."I have put Miyuki's name first, since M comes before N in the alphabet, and added the fandom name after the character names.
If the characters or fandoms that you are nominating in your crossover aren't yet nominated to the tag set, you should include them in your tag nomination (under Fandoms 2 or 3, respectively). When you submit your crossover nomination, your confirmation screen should look like this:
